Rita F. (Silva) O’Neil, 81, a life long resident of Hudson, died peacefully with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, Dec. 29th at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. She leaves her husband of 56 years, David O’neil of Hudson.
Rita was born and raised in Hudson, daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Marshall) Silva and was a graduate of Hudson High School, class of 1947. She was employed as a Child Support Officer with the Massachusetts Dept. Revenue for 26 years until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson where she served as a Eucharist Minister for many years and assisted the Parish in many other areas as well. Rita was a former member of the Marlborough Country Club and enjoyed playing and socializing with her many golfing friends. Most of all, Rita loved and cherished the times spent with her grandchildren, Kate and Emily, especially attending all their basketball and softball games. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving and caring mother and grandmother, steadfast friend and one who could always find something good and likeable in everyone she met. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her two children, Ellen O’Neil of Hudson and Matthew D. O’Neil and his wife Lynette of Hudson; her sister, Elizabeth Linstrom of Bedford; her brother, Charles Silva of Florida; two grandchildren, Katherine E. and Emily A. O’Neil and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Anthony, Joseph, Mariano, Manuel and John Silva, Mary A. Green, Rose Linstrom and Margaret A. Taylor.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 3rd at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Jan. 2nd from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
