John L. O'Hara, 85, of New Bedford died December 28, 2003 at Blaire House after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Ellen M. (Wahlman) O'Hara, and son of the late John P. and Eileen G. (Lacey) O'Hara.
Mr. O'Hara was born in New Bedford and had lived in New Bedford for most of his life. He was a graduate of Holy Family High School.
He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mr. O'Hara was formerly employed as a civil engineer for the U.S. Army at Fort Rodman in New Bedford until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a recipient of the American Theatre Campaign ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal. He later served as a staff sergeant in the National Guard and with the 483 Reserve Unit at Ft. Rodman.
Mr. O'Hara was a member of American Legion Post 166 in Fairhaven and the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick.
Survivors include a son, Timothy D. O'Hara of East Providence, RI; 2 daughters, Sharon L. Titcomb of Marion, and Nancy J. Surprenant of Seekonk; a sister, Eileen Norton of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
