James H. McNamara, of Malden, died Tuesday in the VA Hospital, West Roxbury. He was 78.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late William and the late Mary (Farrell) McNamara. During World War II, he served in the Marine Corps and saw action at Guadal Canal. After the war he began a 3o career with the Boston Police Department in the fleet maintainance division. After his retirement, he worked 6 years as an immigration officer with the US Department of Immigration.
He is survived by his sisters: Marilyn McNamara of Medford, Joan Hogan and her husband Bob of Halifax, and Regina Connor and her husband Michael of Billerica.He also leaves nieces and nephews: Michael and his wife Tracy Connor, Kelly and her husband Shawn McGowan, Melissa Connor and great nephew: Jack McGowan.
Friends may call Monday from 10 AM -12 Noon at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford.
Interment will follow at Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne.
