Joe W. Alston, 63, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, December 27 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Funeral services will be held 4 P.M., Thursday, December 30 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronald Reese officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Alston was born August 30, 1947 in Webster County, Georgia to Mary Ruth Alston Wainwright. He was raised by his mother and grandfather, William Theo Alston and had lived in Fitzgerald most of his life. Mr. Alston served in the United States Army. He managed the Capri Theatre in Fitzgerald, Americus and Valdosta, was a former machine operator for Shaw Industries and worked as a security guard for Southern Veneer. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Alston is survived by his wife: Judy Alston; children and their spouses: Joshua David & Florence Alston, Morgan Lee Taylor & Laura Hodges, Cammie & Carl Reese and Tammy Holloman all of Fitzgerald; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; mother: Mary Ruth Wainwright of Ellaville; brother: William Ernest Wainwright of Ellaville as well as several nieces and nephews.
