Obituary

LEICESTER - Phyllis E. (Nymberg) White, 89, of Leicester, formerly of Worcester, passed away Tuesday, December 28 at Sterling Village in Sterling. She was predeceased by her husband Alden S. White in 1988. She leaves two daughters; Carolyn J. Lednar and her husband Gary of Leominster and Janice B. Levasseur and her husband Philip V.of Stuart, FL; five grandchildren, David, Patricia, Catherine, Beth and Doug and two great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Cassandra. She was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley Nymberg and Chester Nymberg, Jr.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of Chester N. Nymberg, Sr. and Elizabeth H. (Lawton) Nymberg. Phyllis was the recipient of the Silver Dove Award, which was awarded to her by Governor Weld, for her community volunteer work. She was also recognized twice for volunteerism by the Massachusetts Senate and twice by the Massachusetts House of Representatives. She also received the Secretary’s Award for Lifetime Service from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and the Ruth Award from Order of the Eastern Star, Stella No. 3 and Volunteer of the Year Award from the Council of Aging. Phyllis was a member of the First Congregational Church of Leicester and an active member of many local senior and church groups in Leicester and Spencer.

Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phyllis’ memory to the First Congregational Church of Leicester, 1 Washburn Square, Leicester, MA 01524 or the Leicester Senior Center, 40 Winslow Ave., Leicester, MA 01524.
