Mildred Elizabeth Dodson Womack, age 102, of 204 Cambridge Drive, Danville, died on Monday, December 27, 2010 in the Danville Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
Born October 9, 1908 in Halifax County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Henry Clay Dodson and Fannie Adams Dodson. She lived most of her life in Danville and enjoyed cooking, gardening, and was well-known for her cakes and pies. Mrs. Womack was a homemaker and wife to her husband Jack Corbin Womack, whom she married on April 16, 1927, and who predeceased her in 1974. She also enjoyed her special pets, Jesse “ her pretty puppy” and Miss Kitty. Mrs. Womack was of the Primitive Baptist Faith.
Survivors include three daughters: Pauline Womack Shaip, who was preceded in death by her husband, Said N. Shaip, Rachel M. Womack, and Jackie G. Womack, all of Danville; two grandchildren: Paul N. Shaip and his wife Debby of Danville, and Laura Shaip Lengel and her husband Marc of Macon, GA; great-grandchildren: Christopher R. S. Shaip and his wife Bettina of Raleigh, NC, Leslie E. Shaip of Raleigh, NC, Philip Corbin Lengel, Christine M. Lengel, Kathryn G. Lengel, and Joseph A. Lengel, all of Macon, GA. She is also survived by her special niece Frances Holt Daniel and by a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mrs. Womack was the last surviving member of her generation and was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
Funeral services officiated by Elder Danny Parker will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. before the service on Thursday. At other times, they will be at the residence, 204 Cambridge Drive, Danville, VA.
