Obituary

John Edward Turner, 82, of Dartmouth died Sunday December 26, 2010 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Florence E. (Reed) Turner.

Born in Dartmouth, the son of the late John E. and Florence M. (Healy) Turner, he lived in Dartmouth for most of his life.

Mr. Turner was formerly employed as a line foreman for Com Electric until his retirement 25 years ago.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the Stetson Club. He was a member of the Dartmouth High School 1945 Championship Football Team.

He loved his children, and adored without measure his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, photography, and puzzles, was an avid birdwatcher, and found much pleasure in his vegetable garden.

His love of Maine was boundless, and one of the great delights of his life was canoeing there on the beautiful lakes and rivers with his wife, and listening for loons. He especially relished walking through Buttonwood Park with the woman that he loved for sixty-two years.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Michael Turner and his fiancée Paula Malamphy, and Christopher Turner and his spouse Kathleen, all of Dartmouth, and Kelley Turner-Murray and her spouse, Dr. Diane Turner-Murray of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Katie Rapoza and her husband Joseph, Kristin Turner, Serena Turner, Matthew Turner, and Reed Turner-Murray; two great-grandchildren, Julia and Olivia Rapoza; sisters-in-law, Louise Corrigan and her husband Jim, Dorothy Reed and her partner Frank Simmons, Esther Raposa, amd Angie Turner; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was the brother of the late Edward and Richard Turner.
