Ralph E. Corey, 86, of Worcester passed away Friday, December 24 in UMASS Medical Center after a brief illness.
His wife of 47 years, Bernice A. (McCann) Corey died in 1999. He leaves three children, Deborah A. McNamara and her husband Robert of Spencer, Patricia J. Morin of Sterling and Ralph Scott Corey and his wife Pam of Shrewsbury; seven grandchildren, Ellen, Sean, Beth, Amy, Brett, Kiel, and Robin; five great-grandchildren, James, Julia, Dominic, Nico, and Gabriella. A daughter, Cathy M. Dillon and her husband Michael and a grandson, Frank McNamara predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Ralph A. and Catherine M. (Duggan) Corey, graduated from Commerce High School and attended Worcester Junior College. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII serving in the North Atlantic and was a purple heart recipient.
Ralph was an assistant procurement and supply clerk for the US Postal Service in Worcester for 31 years, retiring in 1986, prior to that he worked as a clerk for 12 years at the former Crompton and Knowles Company. He was a member and served on the executive board of the Postal Clerk's Union. He was a member of the Century American Legion Post, the Greendale Retired Men's Club and president of the Pinecrest Drive Kennel Club . Ralph enjoyed fly fishing, vacationing in Vermont and in his younger years coached Worcester Youth Hockey.
The Funeral will be held Wednesday, December 29, from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held Tuesday, December 28 from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
