James A. Nunes, 62, of Mattapoisett died December 23, 2010 at Tufts Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Linda M. (Costa) Nunes.
Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Antone and Blanche (Forgues) Nunes, he lived in Mattapoisett all of his life.
Mr. Nunes was formerly employed by the Town of Mattapoisett Highway Department for 42 years until his retirement in May 2009. He formerly served with the Mattapoisett Fire Department.
He served in the U.S. Army with the 62th Engineering Battalion during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the National Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Mr. Nunes was a member of the American Historical Truck Association, the Carl Hagenbeck Circus Ring and the Northeast Rockbusters. He enjoyed family vacations to Lancaster, PA and collecting toy farm tractors.
Survivors include his wife; 2 daughters, Laurie Ann Nunes of Mattapoisett and Jennifer Nunes of Fairhaven; several cousins.
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 28th at 10 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, December 27th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Tufts Medical Center 800 Washington St. Boston, MA 02111.
