Irene Y. (Belanger) Normand, 92, of Lawrence, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Irene was born in Dover, NH to the late Louis J. and Alice M. (Cartier) Belanger. She was raised and educated in Lawrence, MA. Irene graduated from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in Lowell in 1939 and went on to work at several area hospitals. She was one of the first nurses to work at Bon Secours, now Holy Family Hospital. The majority of her career was spent working as a Pediatric Nurse for Dr. William O’Reiley. Her greatest joy and love was her family and she will be dearly missed.
Irene is predeceased by her husband, Albert E. Normand. She leaves her 3 loving children, Elizabeth A. Lacharite of Lawrence, David L. Normand of Derry, NH, and Brenda L. Torrey and her husband Kevin of Lawrence, grandchildren, Peter L. Lacharite, Jay M. Lacharite and his wife Kim, Heidi M. Kiley and her husband Stephen, Christina Winsor and her husband Shane and Renee Doherty and her husband Paul, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Henry Belanger and his wife Hazel of Lawrence and Albert Belanger of Salem, NH, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 17th at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in her honor on Saturday at 11 am at St. Michaels Church, North Andover. Cremation is to follow. Donations in Irene’s memory may be made to the Mary Immaculate Assisted Living Facility, 189 Maple St., Lawrence, MA 01841.
