John J. Kelleher, Jr., 71, of Peabody, formerly of Tewksbury…retired Raytheon Engineer, U.S. Navy Veteran…

PEABODY: John J. Kelleher, Jr. age71, a former Tewksbury resident, died Monday, December 22, 2003 at his home in Peabody.

Born in Boston on March 3, 1932, he was the son of the late John J. Kelleher and Helen (McCarthy) Kelleher.

Mr. Kelleher was raised in Arlington. He attended Arlington schools and graduated from Arlington High School.

Mr. Kelleher served during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Yellowstone. He was awarded several decorations including the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from active duty on March 1, 1955 with the rank of electrician's mate.

Following his military service, he attended Northeastern University, where he received his degree in electrical engineering.

Prior to his retirement in 1994, he was employed as an electrical engineer by missile division of the Raytheon Corporation in Bedford and Tewksbury.

Mr. Kelleher resided in Tewksbury until moving to Peabody in 1988.

He enjoyed many activities especially reading, skiing, boating and playing golf.

He is survived by 1 daughter; Nancy J. Belanger of Dracut; 2 sons; John J. Kelleher, III and his wife Doreen (Velozo) of Carson City, NV and Michael J. Kelleher and his wife Nancy (Chase) of Tewksbury; 7 grandchildren; Kevin P. Ramsdell of New York, NY, David R. and Eric J. Belanger both of Dracut, Michael P., Rachel R and Kevin J. Kelleher all of Tewksbury and Amanda L. Kelleher of Carson City, NV; his former wife Beverly A. (Buchanan) Beane of Tewksbury.

Mr. Kelleher was the father of the late Cathy A. Ramsdell and brother of the late Robert P. Kelleher.

Calling hours Friday, December 26th from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Saturday, December 27th at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Williams Church 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 would be appreciated.
