Obituary

Worcester – J.E. Paul Turcotte, 75, of Worcester and a former longtime Rutland resident, died peacefully on Sunday, December 12th in his home after an illness.

Mr. Turcotte is survived by his former wife and loving companion Claire M. (Soucy) Turcotte of Worcester; two daughters Michelle R. Adams and her husband Jeffrey of Holden and Lisa A. Sullivan and her husband Timothy of Auburn; a sister Pauline J. Messier of Rutland; a brother Roger E. Turcotte and his wife Miriam of Lancaster. PA; four grandchildren Brett T. and Brooke A. Sullivan of Auburn and Matthew M. and Taylor A. Adams of Holden and many nieces and nephews.

Paul was born in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada the youngest child of the late J. Calixte and Yvonne E. (Hamel) Turcotte. He is predeceased by two brothers Roland G. and R. George Turcotte and two sisters M. Germaine Pelletier and Rita C. Bachand.

Mr. Turcotte grew up and attended schools in the Greendale section of Worcester and later graduated from the Worcester Boys Trade High School in 1953. He then entered the United States Navy and served on the USS Worcester CL144 Fox Division.

Paul worked for many years as a carpenter at Umass Memorial Hospital in Worcester and retired many years ago. He was a member of the Harmony Club of Worcester where he served as President in 1987 and was on their Board of Directors for many years. He also was the President of the first Franco-American Festival in Worcester in 1987. Mr. Turcotte was involved in many community activities including Celebrate Worcester Festivals, and the “April in Paris” Dinner, where he was the chairman.

He was a member of the St. Mary’s Council Knights of Columbus #14298 of Jefferson and was the past Grand Knight of the Adelphi Council #4181 Knights of Columbus of Shrewsbury. Paul was a District Deputy for the Knights of Columbus State Council and a Faithful Navigator of the Bishop Beaven Assembly 4th Degree #396.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, December 16th, from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester, with a Mass at 10 AM in Saint Mary’s Church 114 Princeton St. Jefferson. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 15th from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
