John C. Tavares, aged 74 of Somerset passed away December 10, 2010. He was the husband of Anita (Knoppe) Tavares and son of the late John C. and Mary (Machado) Tavares. John was tugboat engineer for the Providence Steamboat Company for 15 years, retiring in 1999. Previously, he worked as a mechanic for Everett Motors. He was a US Army veteran and a member of the Somerset Progressive club.
Besides his wife of 52 years, he is survived by his 2 daughters: Cynthia Talbot and her husband Ronald of Somerset and Pamela Neto and her husband Glenn of Swansea; 4 siblings: Rosemary Barros of WA, Silvanina Martinho of Somerset, Nell Aronson of WA and Kathleen McLean of NV; 4 grandchildren: Jason Talbot and his wife Kristin, Stephanie Talbot, Tabitha Beaulieu and her husband Derek and Shaina Neto; 2 great granddaughters: Alexandria Talbot and Cori Ann Beaulieu and many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Simon and Joseph Tavares.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St., Fall River WEDNESDAY at 8 A.M. followed by services in the funeral home at 9 A.M. Interment in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown, RI. Calling hours TUESDAY 4-8 P.M.
