Obituary

Silvino "Sil" Oliveira, 75, of St. Petersburg passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010. Sil was born April 4, 1935 in New Bedford, the son of the late Joaquim P. Oliveira II and Alice (Costa) Oliveira. He resided in New Bedford and later Acushnet before moving to St. Petersburg in 1998.
After serving in the Navy for two years, he worked as a Supervisor for Solid Waste and Clerk of Weights and Measures for the City of New Bedford until retirement.
Sil loved to spend time with family and friends, especially at the beach. He was a lifelong sports fan, following all of the Boston teams continuously. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and playing table tennis throughout his life. After moving to Florida, he became a professional member of the West Coast Shuffleboard Association. He competed in tournaments and was an instructor at Americana Cove, his home court.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Ellie, son Mark and wife Elizabeth, grandchildren Halle, Tatiana, and Marcus, brother Joaquim III, sister Alice Botelho, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his brother Leonard.
Visitation will be held on Friday December 17, 2010 from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford on Saturday December 18, 2010 at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
