Walter Clifton York, 83, of Tifton died Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Victory Baptist Church. Rev. Dan Eidson will officiate with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Christopher York, Adam York, Michael York, Brandon McCullough, Clint McCullough, Hunter Pilkinton, Kasey King and Brad King will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Rippy, Mark York, Stanley York, Billy King, Brian York and Doyle York. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 10, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. York was born on August 4, 1927 in Marion County, Alabama and was the son of James Buck York and Ethel Draper York, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty King York, who died in 2001; three sisters; and six brothers. He was retired as a sales consultant with IBP and a member of Victory Baptist Church. He also was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps.
Cliff was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He loved his family, his Heavenly Father and his work. He had worked in various meat-related positions including Colonial Stores, Frosty Morn and IBP. He was an avid outdoorsman with a great love for hunting and fishing. He was a wonderful, witty man with a gentle spirit, who will be greatly missed by his family.
Mr. York is survived by his wife, Brenda Kennedy York of Tifton; one son, Stephen York of Twin Falls, Idaho; one daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Buster McCullough of Elberton; two step-children and their spouses, Grant and Janice York of Tifton and Pam and Jim Byrd of Sycamore; one brother and sister-in-law, James D. and Mary York of Tifton; one sister and brother-in-law, Essielene and Bill Allgood of Tifton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy and Doris King of Tifton; sister-in-law, Judy King of Blue Ridge; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wanda and Powell Gaines of Tifton; his mother-in-law, Lois Perkins of Tifton; twelve grandchildren, Christopher York, Adam York, Michael York, Clint McCullough, Jessie McCullough, Brittany York, Katylan York, Hunter Pilkinton, Alexis Pilkinton, Drew Pilkinton, Brandon McCullough and Hannah McCullough; two great-grandchildren, Evan York and Reece McCullough; and special care-giver, Jennifer Burns.
