Obituary

Spencer Pickering Johnson, 90, Clarksville, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at his residence. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Dr. John David Laida and Dr. Roger Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service Friday at the funeral home. A Masonic service conducted by Clarksville Lodge #89 will be held 7 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born June 5, 1920 in Clarksville, TN son of the late Mack Whitfield Johnson and Evie Pickering Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife and high school sweetheart, Ivalee B. Johnson. He was a SeaBee with the 8th Batallion with the US Navy during WWII. Mr. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church where he taught the Fathers of Faith Sunday School class for many years. He worked at the Clarksville Foundry and Red River Block Company. He was a Mason and was a 50 year member of Clarksville Lodge #89 where he was Past Worshipful Master and current chaplain. He was a member of Clarksville Council #105, Royal Arch Mason #3, Clarksville Commander #8 and Mary Morrison #510 O.E.S., and 1973 Right Eminent Grand Commander of Tennessee. Survivors include son Patrick Johnson (Sherry), Brentwood, TN and one grandson, Adam Johnson. Pallbearers will be Burnley Hunt, Adam Johnson, Doug Willowby, Howard Harrison, Ivan Scholle, Al Rodder, Coy Baggett, and Ron Bagwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Goodwin, Edward Wade, Houston Wade, George Lee, Calvin Stokes, Dr. Dawson Durrett, Freddie Matthews, John Hamilton, Ted Norris, Bobby Norris, and members of the Spencer Johnson Sunday School Class. Special friends include Fannie Barrett, Mable Lee, Nancy Asquith, Linda Matthews, Molly Cook, Sue Albertia, Barbara Monk, Ailene Mickel, and Geraldine Finn. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Knight Templar Eye Foundation, 111 Tobacco Road, Clarksville, TN 37042 or to the Tennessee Baptist Childrens Home, 1310 Franklin Road, Brentwood, TN 37027.
