Obituary

Nancy K. Wellersdieck, of Mystic, 78, passed away December 6th, at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Frank Wellersdieck; two children, Nancy Jean McNomee and Susan Wellersdieck; son-in-law, Fred McNomee; three wonderful granddaughters, Emma Kate McNomee, Abigale McNomee and Hannah McNomee; and her sister, Mary McCarthy.

In her short 78 years, Nancy will be remembered for her kind heart, kindred spirit, and amazing optimism when faced with all that life had to offer. She was an avid bridge player, tremendous golfer and tennis player and could always balance her competitive edge with the softer side of just plain fun. One of her enduring lifelong passions was gardening, whether it was the mundane task of weeding or the rewards of caring for her blueberry bushes and planting the next crop of summer vegetables. As a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and lifelong commitment to her faith, she happily devoted endless hours on projects and activities helping members of her community and beyond.

Nancy was born in Mineola, NY, and lived many years on Long Island. Upon her husband’s retirement they moved to Mystic to be closer to their grandchildren. Her happiest moments were hosting weekend sleepovers, watching soccer games, and most of all receiving the utmost joy and happiness of being a part of their everyday lives.

Nancy will be missed dearly and we can only hope to have the courage and bravery she had throughout her life and especially in this year of 2010. Nancy’s family is grateful and thankful for the wonderful support provided by the Oncology & Hematology Associates of New London, CT.

A service will be held on December 11th at 11:00AM at the Bishop Seabury Church, Groton, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, America’s Leukemia Society, or Bishop Seaberry Church.
