Vernon R. Lindsay Sr., 76, of Metamora passed away at 8:40am on Dec. 6th 2010 at his residence.
He was born on Nov 7th 1934 in Clinton, IA the son of Floyd Lyle and Laura Theresa Stringham Lindsay. He married Shirley Jean Glass on Nov. 8th 1959 at his parents home in Peoria, Illinois
Surviving is his wife Shirley of 51 years, two daughters Mrs. Alex (Rebecca) Jones of Metamora, and Laura Lindsay of Florida. One son David Lindsay of Florida and one adopted daughter Paula E. Mailloux of Metamora also survive.
He is further survived by 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren as well as one brother Ernie Lindsay of Keithburg, IA; four sisters Esther Hartter and Elaine Parrott both of Peoria, Laura England of Wyoming, IL and Wanda Simmons of Mossville as well as a number of loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons Vernon Scott Lindsay, Vernon R. Lindsay Jr., one granddaughter Geneanna Jones, one grandson Jerry Lee Jones and two brothers.
Vernon retired from Metamora Fixtures after working there nearly 30 years as a custom woodworker.
He loved fishing woodworking, and yard work. He also loved country music and played in local country music bands in the area. Vernon was also quite a good artist and several of his paintings are displayed in family members homes.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00am Thursday Dec. 9th at the Mason Funeral Metamora Chapel with Rev. John King officiating. Visitation will be from 5pm until 8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.and also one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora.
