Eleanor T. Tierney

TEWKSBURY - Eleanor T. (Lumley)(White) Tierney, age 84, a resident of Tewksbury for the past seven years, died Saturday afternoon at Saints Medical Center in Lowell following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John T. Tierney, and previously, the late George J. White.
She was born in Somerville, August 23, 1926, one of five children of the late Francis H. and Catherine (Shea) Lumley. She was raised in Cambridge, lived the greater part of her life in Arlington, but moved to Tewksbury in 2003, following the death of her husband John.
In her earlier years, she was employed as a receptionist for Harvard Community Health in Boston, and later Symmes Hospital in Arlington. In her retirement she made many friends as a driver for the Arlington Meals-On-Wheels program. She was also known for her works of charity and contributions to the less fortunate at the Pine Street Inn in Boston. Since moving to Tewksbury, she was a communicant of St. William's Church.
She is survived by six children, Maryanne Tracy of Tewksbury, Judith White-Bonnaci of Arlington, John T. Tierney Jr. of Reading, Georgene Moccia of Tewksbury, Ann Greeley of Arlington, and Sean Tierney of Tewksbury; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Florence Mulcahy of Somerville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also sister of the late Elizabeth Haley, Catherine DeWitz, and Rosemary Andre-O'Connor.
Her Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, Dec. 7, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Interment will be private. Memorials to the Pine Street Inn, 444 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02118 or the Tewksbury Food Pantry, 999 Whipple Road, Tewksbury, MA 01876 will be appreciated.
