Obituary

Helen (Haynes) Keith of Mystic died Monday, November 29, 2010.

She was born November 1, 1928 daughter of Nathan Gallup Williams Haynes and Dorothy (Farrand) Haynes and grew up in South Orange, NJ and New Haven and Stonington, CT. She graduated from Miss Halls School in Pittsfield, MA in 1946 and Connecticut College in 1950. In 1951 she married George G. Keith of Manchester CT.

She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years George Keith, her sister Rhoda Haynes and her half sister Elizabeth Simons and her granddaughter Megan Keith.

She is survived by four children and their spouses: Donna K. and John Baron of Hebron, CT; Katherine K. and Dana Burnsides of Spring, TX; Bruce and Sharon Keith of Colorado; and Douglas and Darlene Keith of North Wales, PA and by seven grandchildren: Jonathan and Benjamin Baron; Gregory and Margaret Von Rump; and William, Daniel and Matthew Keith.

A resident of Mystic since 1953, Helen was an avid gardener and active in her community. Over her lifetime she served as a long-time Mariner Girl Scout leader; a
nursery school teacher and director with Nancy Soderburg and at St Mark’s Nursery School; a member and past president of the Mystic Garden Club; a member, past president, volunteer, and staff member of the Mystic River Historical Society; a life member of the Denison Society; and a parishioner and altar guild member of St. David’s Episcopal Church, Gales Ferry.

Memorial gifts may be sent to the Mystic River Historical Society – collections conservation/acquisition fund or the St. David’s Episcopal Church – building fund

A memorial service will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Gales Ferry, on Saturday, December 18 at 11am. A reception in the church hall will follow. Burial will be private.
