Obituary

Raymond L. Madigan, 85, of Prentice Williams Road, Old Mystic, died Thursday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

Ray was born in New Haven on January 11, 1918 the son of Charles E. and Ida (Meinsen) Madigan. Raised in New Jersey, he was a 1936 graduate of East Rutherford High School and later attended the University of South Carolina as a Psychology Major. He later joined the US Army Horse Cavalry where he served during World War II.

A resident of Connecticut since 1961, he was employed as a Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the blind for the State Board of Education and Services for The Blind in Wethersfield for 22 years before retiring in 1983.

Ray was a member of the Essex Troop of the Horse Cavalry Soldiers in New Jersey, the 117th Calvary Association, the Quoketaug Rangers, the Quoketaug Grange and was known for his love of horses.

He was married to Margaret (Grist) Madigan at Fort Jackson in 1942. Mrs. Madigan died May 7, 1982. Ray is survived by a nieces and nephews, Barbara Connors, Robert Madian, and Delores Biele, and his close friends, Robert and Marjorie Floyd of Old Mystic. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Madigan and a sister, Mabel Madigan.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Sunday from 6-8pm. The service and burial will be in Columbia, SC. Please omit flowers.
