Obituary

Mary M. (Allard) Walsh, 80, of South Yarmouth, formerly of Millis, died November 21 in the Westborough Health Care Center; she was the wife of the late Edward M. Walsh from 1954 until his death in 1986.

Born in Milford on July 7, 1930 the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Laundry) Allard, Mrs. Walsh was raised in Franklin and lived in Millis from 1962 until she moved to the Cape in 1998. She was a 1948 graduate of Franklin High School and a 1952 graduate of Boston University’s Sargent College. Before starting her family, Mrs. Walsh had been a physical education teacher at several area schools. Later, she owned and operated The Nantucket Sleigh Ride, in Nantucket and Boothbay Harbor, Maine. For many years, she worked with her sons in the family business, Metropolitan Removal Company, which was started by her late husband. While living at the Cape, she worked for the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.

Besides working and raising a family, Mrs. Walsh was involved with a number of community organizations. During her Millis years, she was active in many education-related groups including serving on the Millis School Committee. She worked with Catholic Charities as a literacy volunteer in Framingham and at the Cape. In the last year, she had become involved with No Stomach for Cancer, a charitable organization whose mission is to raise awareness about gastric cancer. In addition to her participation in a variety of civic organizations, Mary loved to travel. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Walsh is survived by her children, David Walsh and his wife Mary of Millis, Kathy Flores and her husband Sid of Humble, Texas, Michael Walsh and his wife Patty of Franklin and Beth Lambert and her husband Paul of Worcester. She was the mother of the late Stephen Walsh and is survived by Stephen’s wife Donna of Winslow, Maine.
She is also survived by her brother Raymond Allard Jr. and wife Geraldine of Pine Hill, New Jersey, and her sister-in-law Ann Bourgeois and husband William of Cary, North Carolina, eleven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be on Friday, November 26 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home 3 Barber St., Medway. The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 27 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Millis. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
