Bernard E. Normandin, 92, of Westport died November 20, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health.
He was the husband of the late Irene (Besse) Normandin with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
Born in Central Falls, RI, the son of the late Philip and Marie (Riendeau) Normandin, he lived in Kinston, NC for many years before moving to Westport in 2000.
Mr. Normandin was formerly employed as a manager and chemist with Dupont for many years until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a radio operator and gunner aboard a B-26 Marauder. He was a recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon with 2 battle stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross with oak leaf cluster; the Air Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters and the World War II Victory medal.
Mr. Normandin was a former member of the Kinston Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing the organ, drawing & painting, and chess.
Survivors include a niece, Dorothy Baptista and her husband Frank of Westport; 3 nephews, Mitchell Kuliga and his wife Joan of Assonet, Robert Kuliga and his wife Elaine of New Bedford and Paul Kuliga and his wife Margaret of Exeter, NH; his good friend, Scott Brady of Lakeville.
He was the uncle of the late Joseph Southerland.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 1st at 9 AM in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Perkins Braille & Talking Book Library, 175 North Boston Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
