Barbara Alden (Chase) Whitney, age 88, of Roseland Terrace, Tiverton, RI, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Sakonnet Bay Manor. She was the beloved wife of Elliott G. Whitney, Sr.
Born in New Bedford, MA, she was the daughter of the late Earle F. and Viola C. (Hoyt) Chase. She was a graduate of Dartmouth High School, attended Becker College in Worcester, MA and graduated from Kinyon Commercial School, New Bedford, MA. For several years she was employed as Secretary to the Treasurer of Braley’s Creamery, Inc. in Dartmouth MA.
For twenty years she resided with her family in Barre, VT, where she was a communicant of Barre Congregational Church serving on the religious education committee and belonging to the couples club. She was a member of the American Red Cross and Woman’s Club of Barre.
In 1976 she moved with her husband to Tiverton, RI, where she became a member of the Amicable Congregational Church and joined their social club.
She leaves a husband, Elliott G. Whitney, Sr., of Tiverton, RI; a daughter, Kimberly H. (Whitney) Dennis, wife of Clayton C. Dennis, of Westport, MA; two sons, Elliott G. Whitney, Jr., of Bridgeport, CT and Brent C. Whitney of St Croix, VI; two brothers, Earle F. Chase, Jr. of North Dartmouth, MA and Curtis D. Chase of Acushnet, MA; and is pre-deceased by two sisters, the late Gail H.C. Kimmell of South Dartmouth, MA, and the late Helen F.C. Potthoff of Newport, OR; along with six grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at Amicable Congregational Church on December 11th at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception in the Great Hall at the church.
Burial will follow at Pond Cemetery in Lakeville.
