Obituary

Mr. Joseph M. Ferro, of Wilmington formerly of Everett and South Boston, passed away peacefully on November 20th at the age of 93 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Ida G. (Carbone). Born in South Boston he was the second oldest of thirteen children to the late Michael J. and Sarafina (Vento) Ferro.

Mr. Ferro was a Wilmington resident for well over forty years. He was born and raised in South Boston and lived for a number of years in Everett following his marriage to his beloved wife, Ida. They eventually moved to Wilmington in the early 60's where they would settle and live for many years.

Following high school having been deemed medically unfit for military service, Joe served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Vermont before taking employment as a delivery truck driver for the RIS Paper Co. of Charlestown “ a job he loved very much" until his retirement at the age of 62 following nearly forty years of dedicated employment. All the while, a self-taught musician, Joe gigged steadily around the Greater Boston area playing the bass, guitar and mandola in an Italian wedding/function band with his late brothers, Alfred and Louis and some friends. His other passion was breeding, training and racing his own pigeons for many years while living in Wilmington.

Along with his wife and brothers, he is predeceased by his sisters, the late Katy Landers and Ellie Sasso, and his brother, the late Michael Ferro. He is survived by his son, Michael J. Ferro and his wife Carole of Billerica. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Heather Ferro of Austell, GA, James Ferro and Kimberly Ferro both of Billerica. He is further survived by his brother, Robert Ferro, and sisters Mary Alex, Margaret Landy, Jean Ferro, Gloria Stoddard, Lillian Duffy, Dorothy Stella and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Wednesday, November 24th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Dorothy Church, Main Street, Wilmington, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s memory to the Elder Services of Merrimack Valley Inc., 360 Merrimack St., Building 5, Lawrence, MA 01843.
