Obituary

Methuen, MA - William S. Kania, 97, died Tuesday at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Bill was born in Lawrence and receiced his education at St. Johns, and Bentley School of Business and Finance. For many years he was an accountant for Bolta Products a division of General Tire. Upon retirement Bill worked for Torromeo Industries and Slombo Oil Co. until he was 90 years young.
During World War ll he served his country in the United States Navy as Chief Petty Officer on the USS Saint George. He was in Okinawa, and Saipan, also duty in Japan at wars end when the ship was hit by Japanese Kamakazi’s. He survived and received the Bronze Star, World War ll Victory Medal, and the Navy Good Conduct Medal at wars end.
For many years Mr. Kania was an active communicant in Saint Monicas Church of Methuen, and an usher at church.
A member of Methuen Council #4027 Knights of Columbus, a lifetime member of the Lawrence Lodge #65 B.P.O.E. of Elks, the Lawrence Musicians Association, and the Andover and Crystal Springs Country Clubs. Bill also held offices in local credit unions as a board member.
Mr. Kania was the widower of Emelia M. (Sitko) Kania and is survived by his daughter Dianne E. DeCourcy of Methuen three grandsons : Mark, Scott, and Brian DeCourcy U.S.C.G.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday morning at 10 o’clock in Saint Monica’s Church with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Friends may pay their respects on Friday from 4-8 P.M. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen.
