
Mr. Donald V. Porter, a longtime resident of North Andover, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2010, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. He was 80 years old.
Born in Andover, Massachusetts, on March 22, 1930, Mr. Porter was the beloved son of the late William V. and Agnes (Grazier) Porter. He was an active member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in North Andover, for many years. Mr. Porter was a Korean Army veteran, entering the military at Boston on February 5, 1952 and receiving his honorable discharge from Ft. Devens on January 6, 1954. Mr. Porter was awarded the Army Occupational Medal and the National Defense Service Medal for his outstanding service. He was a member of the VFW in North Andover and was the Animal Control Officer in Andover for many years. He also was employed as a Security Officer at Merrimack College and had worked at the college post office.
He will be sorely missed by his beloved children; Darrell Porter of New Bedford, William “Rusty” V. Porter and Dawn K. and her husband, James Fraser, all of North Andover, grandchildren; Brittany and Lacey Porter, Carley Fraser and Shawna, Nicole and Robert Atwood, all of North Andover, sister; Ruth Lawler of Weymouth and his dear friend; Anthony “Tony” Clinton. Don is also survived by many nieces and nephews and was the brother of the late Alton Porter, Evelyn St. Jean and Alice Davidson.
His memorial service will be celebrated in St. Paul Church, 390 Main Street, North Andover, Friday evening, November 19, 2010, at 7 PM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in the church, prior to the service, from 5 to 7 PM. Interment will be private.
