Johnny Richard Rigney, age 61, of 6538 Sago Road, Penhook, Virginia, went to be with The Lord on Saturday, November 13, 2010 in the VA Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. He was a loving father and papa and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Born April 9, 1949 in Danville, he was the son of the late John Herman Rigney and Beulah Light Rigney. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps and the U. S. Navy where he served as a Naval Officer. Mr. Rigney was a member of Brosville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Timmy Rigney, and a sister, Carolyn Gammon.
Survivors include one son: Jason Scott Rigney; one daughter: Roxanne Gail Rigney ; three sisters: Margaret R. Smith, Linda R. Echols, and Angela R. Wilkerson; two brothers: Roger L. Rigney and Thomas D. Rigney; grandchildren: Michael Rigney, Rachel Allen, Rusty Barber, Brooke Oakes, Landon Goodwin, Emily Rigney, and Carmen Rigney; a great-grandson, Carson Allen.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at two o’clock at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, November 15, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., and at other times, they will be at the residence, 6538 Sago Road, Penhook, Virginia.
