Kenneth Joseph Kalen Sr. , of Stoughton, passed away unexpectedly, on Saturday December 13,2003, at the Caritas St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston,MA after a brief illness. He was 80 years old. He was the beloved husband for 57 years of Mrs. Phyllis Marie (Andrews) Kalen.
Born February 16,1923, in Boston ,MA, he was the son of the late Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Evelyn M.( Chace) Kalen.
He attended Roslindale Public Schools, and was a 1941 graduate of Hyde Park High School.
After graduating from High School , he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
He was dedicated to his country, and was a Veteran of World War II.
After serving his country proudly, Mr. Kalen began working for the Boston Post Newspaper.
He later began a career, working as a Newspaper Advertiser for the Brockton Enterprise Newspaper, in Brockton,MA.
He was a former member of the Hyde Park Methodist Church in Hyde Park,MA and a current member of the First United Methodist Church of Stoughton,MA.
He loved his wife and family dearly.
He enjoyed Fishing, Swimming, Trips to the Ocean and to the State of Maine.
He was a member of the Easton Fitness Center in Easton,MA.
He was a music lover, and passed along that love and his knowledge of music to his children. .
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children: Karen Marie Pechonis and her husband John of North Attleboro,MA Nancy Jean Jordan and her husband Paul of Bridgewater,MA and Kenneth Joseph Kalen Jr. and his wife Pamela of Whitman,MA. Also Survived by two Step-Brothers: Paul and John Trayers and a Step-Sister Martha Chaisson. Also survived by six Grandchildren: Joanne and Laura Pechonis of North Attleboro,MA Thomas and Kalen Jordan of Bridgewater,MA and Benjamin and Caroline Kalen of Whitman,MA.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday December 17,2003 at 11 A.M. from the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. The Reverend Garvin Warden from the Centenary United Methodist Church of Attleboro,MA officiating. Interment will be Private. Visiting hours are on Tuesday December 16,2003 from 7-9 P.M.In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association , 330 Congress Street, Boston,MA 02210 in Kenneth’s memory would be appreciated.
