Bernard Joseph Nowakowski, age 65, of Stonington died Wednesday, Nov. 10th, with his family at his home of 35 years.
Son of the late Anthony and Mary (Hrabos) Nowakowski of Norwich, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Phyllis (McLaughlin) Nowakowski, daughter Lynn Nowakowski Mooney, sons, Adam and Richard Nowakowski, grandchildren Chris, Josh and Samantha Nowakowski Mooney, his brother, Richard Nowakowski of So. Venice, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother William and his sister Mary Massie.
He was a graduate of NFA and Three Rivers Community College. He has been an employee of Connecticut College for the past 23 years and previously worked for the Central Vermont Railroad.
Bernie was a Vietnam veteran and avid British motorcycle and antique car enthusiast. He had a genuinely kind nature, selfless dedication to family and friends, and enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren. His cerebral and provocative sense of humor and approach to life proved him to be an exceptionally unique and admirable human being.
A service in celebration of Bernie’s life will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov.18, with a short reception to follow.
