Obituary

Manchester– Archie Adams, 95, died November 6, 2010 at Merrimack Hospice house following a brief illness.

He was born in Albania on October 28, 1915 the son of George and Athena Adams.

Archie immigrated to the United States at age 5. He excelled at baseball and had a passion for architecture as a young man but forgo both to support his Mother Athena when his father died. He was a 1935 graduate of Manchester Central High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Following the war, Archie was engaged in the family business, The Palace Fruit, and had a long career with US Postal Service holding positions of Post Master, Director of Civil Service Entrance Examinations and District Safety Director. Archie retired in 1979.

In his life he excelled at cribbage, was an avid gardener, and travelled the world with his family and Wife Mary, whom he met through a matchmaker and proposed to on their third date. He was a member and past president of The Albanian American Society; a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral; and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He and Mary contributed countless hours of community service to Albanian immigrants whom had moved into the greater Manchester area.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary (Christo) Adams on June 18, 2005.

Family members include his son, George Adams and his wife, Maureen of Merrimack, his daughter, Ruth and her husband Timothy Swaty of Houston, TX. three grandchildren: Amanda and her husband Dennis Myers of Chicago, IL.; Michael Adams and his wife Melissa of Manchester; and Matthew Adams of Corvalis, OR.

Services: Calling hours will be on Monday from 5 to 7 PM at J. N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St., Manchester. A trisagion service will take place at 6 PM during calling hours.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 10 AM in St. George Orthodox Church, Hanover St.

Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Brown Ave.
