Obituary

Albert Vess of Halifax and, formerly of Hanson, Milton, Quincy, and Bar Harbor, Maine, died after a brief illness on November 1st at the age of 93.

Beloved husband of Rosalie Vess (Mantia), former husband of the late Laura Jean Vess (Onistzuk). He is survived by his loving son and daughter in law, Mark and Helen Vess of Hanson. He was the dear father of the late Paula Vespaziani of Middleboro. He is survived by his sister in law Rita Lazzaro and her husband Frank of Medford. He is survived by his sister in law Mina Pelargonio of Dedham. He is also survived by 3 step-sons, Bill Mantia and wife Elaine of Mansfield, Jackie Mantia and his wife Gail of Bridgewater, and Bobby Mantia of Quincy, and 3 step grand children Michael, Thomas and John Mantia. He is also survived by his niece Betsy Smart and husband Jimmy of Kingston.

Albert was born in Supino, Italy in 1917. The family immigrated to America in 1920. Albert was raised in Quincy and graduated from the Quincy High school. He continued his education with a degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University. Albert served in the Navy to complete a successful tour as a Seaman First Class. Albert received the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theatre Medal.

He enjoyed a successful career in engineering and retired from HC Stark-Bayer Corporation. He was a successful inventor. He was an honorary lifelong member and club historian at the Point Independence Yacht Club.

Albert led an extraordinary life in that he was able to do so many things at once and do them all well. He was a remarkable craftsman and could fix anything. Albert was an amazing father and mentor for those of us privileged to know him.

Friends & Relatives are invited to gather at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St. (Rt.14) Pembroke Center on November 13th, beginning at 10:00 AM for a two hour remembrance followed by a funeral service at 12:00 noon. Committal and Internment to immediately follow at the Fern Hill Cemetery, High Street in Hanson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Albert’s memory to the Hanson Food Pantry 215 Main St, Hanson MA 02341and the Halifax seniors building committee, 506 Plymouth St, Halifax, MA 02338.
