Obituary

WORCESTER-Julia A. (Glavickas) Karpawich, 94, of Worcester, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, November 2nd in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home. Her husband, Dr. Peter P. Karpawich, died in 1988. She leaves two sons, Dr. Peter P. Karpawich of Grosse Pointe, MI, and Dr. James J. Karpawich and his wife, Kathleen of Hudson, OH; two daughters, Linda A. Franco and her husband José of Burlingame, CA and Kathryn M. Whitehead and her husband, Don of Worcester; seven grandchildren; two great grandsons; many extended family members and dear friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Mathew Glavickas and two sisters, Antonia Wackell and Margaret Phillips.

She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Joseph W. and Mikaline (Kvetkauskas) Glavickas and graduated from the former High School of Commerce and St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Karpawich was a Registered Nurse at Manhattan General Hospital and Marlborough Hospital, before retiring in 1942. Mrs. Karpawich was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, where she was a former Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and taught Christian Doctrine. She was a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, where she taught Christian Doctrine and served as a Eucharistic Minister both at the church and at Radius Healthcare Center. Mrs. Karpawich was also a member of the Catholic Nurses Alumnae, St. Vincent Nurses Association, Worcester District Medical Alliance, the Guild of Our Lady of Providence, the Children’s Fund Players and the Holy Cross Club of Worcester. She served on the board of the former Marillac Manor and was a volunteer for many years at St. Vincent Hospital.

The funeral is Saturday, November 6th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, November 5th from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted, and that a donation in her name be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
