Obituary

STERLING-Olive (Diggle) White, 96, formerly of Worcester, passed away at Sterling Healthcare, Sterling, MA on November 2, 2010. Her husband of 49 years, Samuel Waters White, passed away in 1989.
Born in South Grafton, June 9, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Alice (Smith) Diggle. She was a graduate of Grafton High School. For many of the early years she was employed at Wuskanut Mills in South Grafton where her father worked. Later she was a beautician, and then a dietary aide at Worcester Hahnemann Hospital, and the Masonic Home in Charlton where her husband was administrator.
Mrs. White was a member of the Rachel Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #61 in Grafton. She was a member of Greendale People’s Church. She was known for her winning smile and happy nature. She was always willing to help at the church fair by crocheting kitchen hand towels. Many of her closest friends and family have been the recipients of the towels for many years. She also, until recently, was a member of the Nereids at the YWCA, swimming two times a week since 1975. For the last 17 years Mrs. White has summered in the Wild Harbor area of North Falmouth.
She is survived by her son, Rodney A. White and his wife, Patricia of Holden; her daughter Janice W. Dahl and her husband Andrew of North Falmouth, MA; six grandchildren, Kendre White Smith and her husband Brian of CA, Bryan White and his wife Kimberly of Sterling, MA, Steven White and his wife Maria of West Boylston, Kristina Dahl Adler and her husband Darrell of Stamford, CT, Jennifer Dahl Gallagher and her husband Timothy of New Canaan, CT, and Meredith Dahl Fishburn and her husband Andrew of Washington, DC; nine great grandchildren, Walker and Derek Smith, Samuel and Nathan White, Allison White, Gordon and Olive Gallagher, Derek and Peter Adler, and several nieces and nephews. Her brother, Fred Diggle passed away in 1966. She touched endless lives, always had a smile on her face and a wave for everyone. She will be lovingly missed by many.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 7 at 2:00 PM in Greendale People’s Church, 25 Francis Street, Worcester, MA 01606. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, South Grafton will be private. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Greendale People’s Church or the YWCA of Central Worcester Mass.-Development Office, 1 Salem Square, Worcester, MA 01608.
