Obituary

William Sharp Kirkpatrick, age 91 and resident of The Village at Duxbury died peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 28th after a brief illness.
He is survived by Carolyn, his wife of 68 years, his two children, Bryan Kirkpatrick of Chatham, NJ and Amanda Dickerson of Dover, MA along with four grandchildren, Christopher and Zoe Dickerson and Molly and Hannah Kirkpatrick. He is also survived by his brother, Henry Halsey Kirkpatrick, Jr. of York, PA.
He was a graduate of Penn State University where he was active in fraternity affairs and the captain of the varsity swim team.
During World War II, he achieved the rank of major in the Army Air Corps and was the operations and training officer for the Ninth Troop Carrier Command Pathfinder Squadron. He was decorated with the Croix de Guerre for his role in the preparation of the invasion of Normandy on D-Day.
After the war, he earned his M. Arch at Yale University, and with his wife moved back to his hometown of Reading, PA. He became a partner with the architectural firm, Muhlenberg Bros. For over 50 years, he was active in local civic affairs and designed private residences, schools, churches, museums and other public buildings.
Since 2004 he and Carolyn have enjoyed their retirement years in Duxbury and the many friends they have at The Village.
