NATICK: Ethel (Bowman) O’Brien, 91, died comfortably on Friday, October 29, 2010 with her family at her side at St. Patrick’s Manor following a period of declining health.
She was born in Westborough on January 14, 1919 the daughter of the late Leslie Bowman and Grace (Lake) Bowman,
Mrs. O’Brien is survived by her devoted children David O’Brien and his wife Colleen of Framingham; Paul D. O’Brien and his wife Barbara of Hopkinton and Jane E. O’Brien of Stoughton. She is also survived by her sister Marion Kennedy of Grafton, Norman Bowman of Westborough, five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter Makayla Lombard. She was the wife of the late Edward H. O’Brien who died in December of 2006 and sister of the late Helen Woodman, Glendon Bowman and Irma Lowe.
Mrs. O’Brien has resided in Natick for over 60 years and spent her formative years in Westborough. She graduated from Westborough High School and from The South Middlesex Secretarial School in Framingham. In her earlier years she was a secretary and stenographer at Dennison Manufacturing in Framingham and in 1944 she enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and served as a Sergeant during World War II in Quantico, VA. For many years she was a Clerk at Johnson’s Pharmacy in Cochituate and then at the Wayland Apothecary prior to retirement. She was an active member of the Community United Methodist Church in Cochituate and spent many hours over the years volunteering for the Annual Church fair.
Visitations will be held in Tuesday, November 2, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Cochtiuate Village, Wayland.
A private funeral service and burial will take place in the O’Brien family lot in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Natick.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial gifts in her memory may be sent to St. Patrick’s Manor, 863 Central St, Framingham, MA 01701.
