Robert F. Niemi, 78, of Mansfield passed away on Saturday October 30, 2010 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was the husband of Joyce M. (Siegfried) Niemi, to whom he was wed for 53 years.
Born in Easton, MA on February 18, 1932 he was a son of the late Toivo and Emelia (Hill) Niemi.
Bob grew up in Easton and was a 1949 graduate of Oliver Ames High School in North Easton and attended the Butera School and Fine Arts Museum in Boston
A retired contractor, Mr. Niemi had made his home in Mansfield for the past 53 years and was the self employed owner of Robert F. Niemi Builders.
A member of the Faith Fellowship United Methodist Church in Mansfield. Bob was a prolific artist in many media. His hobbies included gardening, fishing and golf. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, especially attending his grandsons sporting events.
In addition to wife, he is survived by his daughters Liisa E. Niemi of Mansfield and Karen M. Wright and her husband Jack of Mansfield. He was the brother of Inez Cronan of Taunton and Impi Turner of Raynham. The grandfather of Thomas A. Bregnard, William E. Bregnard, Charles R. Erickson, Richard J. Erickson and Oliver H. Erickson all of Mansfield, he is also survived by his mother in law Dorothy L. York of Mansfield as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday November 3rd from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday November 7th at 1:00 P.M. in the Faith Fellowship United Methodist Church 7 North Main St. Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Mansfield Animal Shelter Friends P.O. Box 25 Mansfield, MA 02048.
