Obituary

Alvin H. Towne, 85, of Methuen, died on Wednesday, October 27th at his home in Methuen with his wife Ruth by his side.
Alvin was born in Lawrence. He enlisted in the Navy during his senior year at Punchard High in Andover and was called to serve in the Navy in May of 1943. He served as a photographer First Class. After leaving active duty, he became a part of the Naval Reserves until being recalled to serve during the Korean War in 1950.
On September 16, 1950, he was married to Ruth (Dean) Towne, currently of Methuen. He worked for many years as a photographer at Look Photo in Andover. He then moved on to Compugraphic which later became Agfa, from where he retired. Alvin was a member of St. Matthew’s Lodge AF & AM in Andover and was Past Master in 1977. He was awarded the Knight of the York, Cross of Honor as a member of the York Rite Bodies. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, the Bektash Shrine Aanoms and Colyopy Unit, Concord, NH, American Legion Post #122, Methuen, the VFW in Methuen as well as a member of the New England Photographer’s Association.
In addition to his wife Ruth, he leaves his two sons, David A. Towne and his wife Fay of Arizona, Robert P. Towne and his wife Debi of Michigan, a daughter, Susan Towne of Methuen, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to call from Noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 31st at the Charles F. Dewhirst Andover Funeral Home, 33 Pearson Street, Andover, MA and on Monday, November 1st from 10 to 11 a.m. A Masonic Service will take place at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at West Parish Cemetery, Andover. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Springfield Shriner’s Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
