Obituary

COCHITUATE: Nicholas “Nick” Athanas, 89, died peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 following a period of declining health.
He was born on December 6, 1920 in Albania the son of the late Andon Athanas and May (Zicko) Athanas.
Nick was the beloved husband of Polly (Adams) Athanas of Cochituate. He is also survived by his sister Mia LaMachio of Arlington. He was the devoted father of the late Norma Paula Athanas who died in 2007 and brother of the late Louis Athanas.
Nick spent his earlier years in Albania, moved to Arlington as a young boy and graduated from Arlington High School. He was a resident of Cochituate for the past 60 years. Nick was associated with Raytheon in Waltham as a Supervisor for many years. He was also a carpenter for over 60 years in the metrowest area. He was a longtime communicant of the Community United Methodist Church of Cochituate.
Nick enjoyed many sports especially bowling, baseball and walking. He enjoyed bowling with the leagues at Fairway Bowling in Natick. He played baseball with the Boston Park League, Arlington and Lexington teams. He was a member Wayland Senior Citizens.
Visitations will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte. 30), Cochituate.
His funeral service will follow at 11:00 am on Saturday, Oct. 30 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Athanas family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate.
