Obituary

Anthony L. Thomas age 60 of Provincetown died unexpectedly on October 15, 2010 at Cape Cod Hospital. Anthony was born in New Bedford, the son of the late Anthony L. Thomas Jr. and Olivia (Tasha) Thomas of Provincetown. Known as Tony or “T” by friends and family, he lived with heart disease that was first diagnosed in 2007. For 2 ½ years he functioned, supported by the use of a heart pump. In December of 2009 he received a heart transplant. Although his recovery process seemed to be on schedule, he was stricken on Friday morning at his home. Despite the efforts of the rescue squad he could not be successfully revived.

Anthony was a graduate of Provincetown High School class of 1969. He was a fisherman who loved his life’s work which began when his dad would take him out at the age of 12. He learned to cherish the seemingly simple joys of life made up of family and friends, spending time at the Coffee Pot Restaurant or talking out on the pier with other fishermen, vacationing in Searsport, ME and relaxing at his hobby of collecting American Flyer and Lionel electric trains. He was most grateful for the chance to know and love his grandchildren.

Besides his mother Olivia, he is survived by his loving wife Deborah (Perdue) Thomas, his children Jeremy Santos of Provincetown, Michael Rego and his wife Tasia of Truro, Joshua Rego of Eastham, Erin Thomas Lawrence and Anthony C. Thomas both of Provincetown, his 3 grandchildren, Ocean Rego, Lillian Rego and Anthony F. Thomas, his 3 sisters Helen Motto of Eastham, Cynthia McGonagle of Provincetown and Kristin Verde of Provincetown. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
