Obituary

SHREWSBURY: James H. Flaherty, IV, 48 died peacefully in the comfort of his family on October 13, 2010 at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester following a courageous battle with cancer.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife Pamela (Foster) Flaherty of Shrewsbury and their son James H. Flaherty, V of Shrewsbury. He is also survived by his mother Nancy G. (Warren) Flaherty of Manchester, NH and his father James H. Flaherty, III and his wife Susan of Hollis, NH. He was the brother of Scott S. Flaherty and his wife Diane of S.C.; Julie A. Sarbieski and her husband Robert of Atkinson, NH; Sharon L. Dostie and her husband John of Pelham, NH and Joel A. Flaherty and his wife Amy of Pelham, NH. He was the son-in-law of John A. Foster, Sr. of Wells, ME and brother-in-law of John A. Foster Jr. of Bellingham; Laura J. Chevalier and her husband Gerard of Bellingham and Michelle Foster of Marlborough. Also survived by many aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in Stoneham on January 13, 1962. He has been a resident of Shrewsbury for the past 20 years and previously resided in Andover. He graduated from Andover High School with the Class of 1980 and received his BS in Communications from the University of MA in Amherst. He received his Masters from Bryson University. For 17 years he was associated with the Gillette Co. in Boston as a manager. In recent years, he has been a consultant in the field of retail. He served as a Board of Director for NEHA and on their fundraising committee planning their annual golf tournament. He enjoyed being with his family at their summer home in Wells, Maine. His interests included reading, fishing, golfing and antique cars, especially Buicks. He was a member of the UMASS Alumni Assoc. He was a devoted and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 at 4:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland. Interment will be private for his family.
