TAUNTON – Etelvina (Raposo) Arruda, wife of the late Virginio C. Arruda, died at Brigham & Women’s Hospital on Oct. 14, 2010.
She was 87.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Jacinto Raposo and Maria de Conceicao (Rodriques) Raposo.
She moved to this country in 1973 and made Taunton her home.
She was employed by the former Walkover Shoe Co. of Bridgewater for many years, retiring at 62.
A communicant of St. Anthony Church, Mrs. Arruda enjoyed spending time with her family.
She leaves five sons, Eduardo Arruda and his wife Aurelia of Raynham, Nelson Arruda and his wife Helena, and Antonio Arruda and his wife Natalia, all of Ottawa, Canada, Manuel Arruda and his wife Maria of Dighton, and Gilbert Arruda and his companion Maryellen DeCosta of Taunton; three daughters, Hilda Medeiros of New Bedford, Natalia da Silva and her husband Tobias of Taunton, and Alcina Amorim and her husband Jose of Raynham; two brothers, Carlos and Antonio Raposo, both of Canada; one sister, Paulina Raposo Teves of Portugal; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by six siblings, and her son-in-law, the late Reinaldo Medeiros.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Monday Oct. 18th at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday Oct. 17th from 5 to 8 p.m.
