Obituary

Beatrice “Bea” Jones, 74, of Fitzgerald, GA, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 16, 2010, at the Ocilla Church of God with Rev. Clayton Dowd and Rev. Ike Branch officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-9, Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Jones was born November 4, 1935 in St. Lawrence County, New York to the late Claude Winnett and Freida Belle Jaycox Caswell. She was a 1952 graduate of Canton High School in Canton, NY. Mrs. Jones moved to Fitzgerald in 1961 and was a former resident of Columbia, AL. She was a homemaker and a former Linotype Operator at the Ocilla Star and the Herald Leader. Mrs. Jones was a member of West Side Baptist Church. She was a member and helped to organize the South Georgia Touring Club and was co-founder of the Motorcycle Rally which has had a presence at the Sweet Potato Festival for the past 25 years. She served on the board at Sunnydale Training Center. Mrs. Jones enjoyed baking cakes for her family and friends and she enjoyed camping, making ceramics, crafts and homemade cards with her original poems.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband of 53 years: Carl Ellis Jones of Fitzgerald; daughter & son-in-law: Angela & Ken Thompson of Fitzgerald; daughter-in-law: Joyce Jones of Hahira; grandchildren: Jennifer (Jason) Smith, Julie (Mike) Steves, Lauren Jones and Catherine Jones; great grandchildren: Keira Smith, Brody Moffitt, Ava Steves and Marlee Carpenter; brothers: John (Louise) Caswell of Grand Island, NY, C.J. (Roxie) Caswell of Madrid, NY and David Caswell of Schuylerville, NY and sisters: Elizabeth Gibbs of South Colton, NY, Alice (Bill) Pharoah of Herman, NY and Doris (Bill) Pearce of N. Tonawanda, NY. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Carlton Ellis Jones and Randall Lewis Jones, a daughter, Regina Lynn Jones and two sisters, Rose Fifield and Mary Scott.
