Augusta, GA---Mrs. Mary Newman Cushman, 89, entered into rest on Monday, October 11, 2010, at Doctors Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am tomorrow Friday, October 15, 2010 at Lake Park Baptist Church, 211 Milledge Road, with Reverend Robert L. Gosey officiating. Interment will follow at West View Cemetery.
Mrs. Cushman was a native Augustan and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. A stay at home mother, she later worked for the Augusta Housing Authority and managed Graceful Creations.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). Mrs. Cushman was a faithful member of Lake Park Baptist Church, for many years. She loved her Savior with all her heart and soul. Her love of life was contagious and lifted the spirits of all who spent time in her presence. Her steadfast faith and courage, in the face of much adversity, will forever be a source of strength to all who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to be a part of her life. Precious memories of her will live in our hearts forever.
Mrs. Cushman was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Edward Cushman Jr., parents, Edward A. and Lizzie J. Smith Newman, brother, Edward Newman and sisters, Nellie Blackwell and Myrtis Warner Johnson.
Survivors include her children, Linda Cliatt Young and husband, Douglas of Evans, GA, Larry Cushman of Augusta, GA and Sherrill Cushman Jenkins of Stockbridge, GA, sister, Frances Newman Goodwin, Hephzibah, GA, seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, 10 nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
The family will receive friends this evening Thursday, October 14, 2010, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Platt’s Crawford Avenue.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Boulineau, Scott Bedgood, Don Morris, Wayne McGaha, John Wallace and Steven Dent, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Ramon Collier, James T. Johnson, Don Edwards, Gene Durst and Larry Royal.
