Obituary

Manuel A. Neves, 85 of New Bedford died October 11, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital unexpectedly.
He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Barros) Neves.
Born in Providence, RI, the son of the late Augusto and Mary (Andrews) Neves Delgado, he was raised in Wareham and lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Neves was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.
He was formerly employed as a truck driver for Teamsters Union Local 59 for many years until retirement.
Mr. Neves served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a handyman and enjoyed carpentry.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen J. Barnett of Douglasville, GA; 2 brothers, Napoleon Delgado of East Wareham and Augusto Delgado Jr. of Carver; 4 sisters, Natalie Matthews of Plymouth, Margaret Gomes of East Wareham, Mae Pires of New Bedford and Lorraine Duarte of Fairhaven; 4 grandchildren, Karl M. Neves, Jr. and Nicole Marie Neves, both of New Bedford and Justin H. Barnett and Andreeta Jade Barnett, both of New Bedford, 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Karl Neves and Kathleen Neves and the brother of the late Madeline Allen, Alice Presley, Edna Campinha and George Ferry.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday, October 18th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours Sunday, October 17th from 5-8 PM.
