Obituary

Salem: J. Roger Albert, age 81 of Beverly and former resident of Salem, died Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the husband of Lucille Y. (Grenier) Albert, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Patrick and Dorothy (Nixon) Albert.
Roger joined the Navy during WWII and served in the South Pacific aboard several vessels. Following his discharge from the Navy he enlisted in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Roger was decorated several times during both enlistments. Following his discharge in 1952, he returned to Salem and married Lou in 1953.

Roger worked in construction and as a painter for several local construction and painting contractors. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved nothing more that to spend time with his family.

In addition to his wife Lucille, he is survived by 4 daughters, Estelle Jenkins of Beverly, Jeannie McCormick and her husband John of California, Judi Szczechowicz and her husband Bernard of Salem, Liana Buttner of Salem, 3 sons, Professor Donald P. Albert and his wife Julie of Texas, Roger P. Albert and his wife Ellen of Beverly, and Michael J. Albert of Salem. He is also survived by a sister, Lorraine Galluzzi of New York, 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Donald Albert and sister, Connie Galvin.

Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral mass on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem, followed by a committal service at Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours will be on Friday, 4 to 8 p.m. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem.
