Obituary

BEVERLY: Fred M. Abate, 50, died Friday, October 8, 2010 in the Kaplan family Hospice House in Danvers following a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Beverly on October 4, 1960, he was the son of Patricia A. (Mazzaglia) Abate and the late Dominic “Mickey” Abate. A resident of Beverly most of his life, he was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1978 and Salem State College class of 1982.
Fred was employed in various positions for the Anheuser-Busch Company for over twenty-two years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his three sons.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his three sons, Daniel, Patrick and Jake Abate; a sister and brother-in-law, Tina and Jack McGilloway; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Carla Abate and John and Trinell Abate; his husband, David Smith Abate and his family, Thomas and Jane Smith, William and Mary Smith and Richard and Kelly Smith and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was also predeceased by his former spouse, Lisa (Wright) Abate.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday in the First Baptist Church of Beverly, 221 Cabot St., Beverly at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 7 Oak St., Worcester, MA 01609-2508 or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
