Delphina, E. (Lopes) Tavares, of Rockland formerly of Weymouth, Oct 7, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 78. Wife of the late Manuel Tavares. Loving mother of Nanette Tavares of Campbell, OH. And Denise Calderon and her husband Angel of Rockland. Dear grandmother of Cristina, Michael, Alexis, Brittany and Angelica. Sister of Edward “Rudy” Lopes of Hanson, James “Louie” Lopes of Bridgewater, Robert Lopes of CA., Frances Cardoza of Buzzards Bay, Priscilla Mendes of Kingston, Virginia Gomez of Weymouth, the late Manuel Lopes and the late Alfred Lopes Jr. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Delphina was born on April 18, 1932 in Scituate, MA. she graduated from Marshfield High School then moved to Ohio and married Manuel Tavares. Delphina attended Kent State University and Youngstown States Nursing Programs; she lived in Ohio for 37 years before moving back to Weymouth in 1988, at that time Delphina went to work at the South Shore Hospital in the Environmental Services and Anesthesia Equipment Departments. She also worked part time as a nurse caregiver in Scituate. She retired in 1993. Delphina was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, she enjoyed Bingo and was envolved in decorating the 1st floor lobby of Union Towers in Weymouth. Delphina was a dedicated follower of her grandchildren in Basketball and Softball; she was the mascot of the softball team for several years. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Funeral from the MacDonald Funeral Home 1755 Ocean St, Rte 139, Marshfield, Tuesday Oct 12, at 7:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Family Church 403 Union St, Rockland, MA. at 9:00 am.
Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
