Mary E. “Betty” Jowers, 73, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at the Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Thursday, October 7, 2010, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Bro. Allen Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Coffee County. The family will receive friends from 7-9, day Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Jowers was born November 10, 1936 in Wheeler County to the late Lucian E. and Thelma Hall Avant. She lived in Fitzgerald most of her life and worked for Fitzgerald Underwear for 42 years. Mrs. Jowers attended Eastside Holiness Baptist Church.
Mrs. Jowers is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Oliver V. & Jo Jowers of Ocilla and Gary W. & Bonnie Jowers of Fitzgerald; 8 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; sister: Ruth Blizzard of Phenix City, AL, Loretta Avant Jones of Jacksonville, GA, Geraldine Avant Graham of Perry, GA and Joann Avant Harper of Broxton, GA as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harrell Jowers, granddaughter, Miranda Denise McCollum, great grandson, Chad Logan, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
