Manchester– Elizabeth J. “Libby” Arnold, 89, formerly of Benoit Apartments on Tarrytown Rd., died October 3, 2010 at Bedford Hills Healthcare Center following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Manchester on April 23, 1921 the daughter of Morris and Harriet (Wolfe) Goody.
She had been a lifelong resident of the Manchester area.
She graduated from Manchester Central High School class of 1938 B.
She worked for many years at the International Shoe Co. Tannery. She then attended Hesser Business College and received her Business degree. Following her graduation she worked at the Pandora Factory Store , the Credit department of Filene’s Basement and as a receptionist for Gayle Godzyk Real Estate in Manchester. She was also a volunteer at the Elliot Hospital.
Some of her hobbies and interests were baking for her friends and grandchildren, embroidery of tablecloths that she loved to give as gifts.
IN HER LIFE: Members of her family include one daughter Gayle (Arnold) Godzyk and her husband Robert, two grandsons Scott and Brian Godzyk and their spouses Nancy and Cyndi Godzyk, great grandchildren Casey, Corey, Caley and Ashley Godzyk all of Manchester, two sisters Nena (Goody) Deane of Manchester, Shirley (Goody) Lance of Westerly, RI, one brother Lewis Goody of Homosassa, FL and his wife Rita, Brother-in-law Leo Argeropoulos of Manchester and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters Frances (Goody) Argeropoulos of Manchester, Alice (Goody) Nelson of Manchester and one brother Leonard Goody of Somerville, MA.
While a resident at Bedford Hills Nursing Care she had many friends; both residents and staff members, with whom she spent much time with in the Activity Department where they not only enjoyed playing BINGO, but had many social activities as well as arts and crafts.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church until its closing and St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be Thursday from 3 to 7 PM at the J. N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St.. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 AM in St. Pius X Church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
